How did a failure set you up to have success being a missionary at work?

I was retrenched from a sales leadership role, when the Company who brought me on board to drive new business, changed direction. During my time there I was able to witness to a colleague. Post my retrenchment I was able to explain where my peace and calmness comes from. My behaviour during this process lined up with my verbal confession. So this proved to be a further witness, and has enabled me to continue my witness to this person.

What’s a Bible verse that you want to share with your fellow workplace missionaries? Why?

I really like 1 Corinthians 3:6-9

Somebody plants, somebody waters, and the Holy Spirit does the heavy lifting…..but I want to be that “somebody”. As I may be the missing link if I don’t. And, I may be the only Christ follower whom they ever meet in the work arena. So I need to play my role in the “recruitment process “.

If you could tell the CEOs of the biggest companies in the world one sentence about Jesus, what would it be?

Study Jesus and his ways through reading the Bible, He is the best teacher and servant leader in history.

What’s the best spiritual investment you’ve made?

Storing my treasures in Heaven, best investment ever!

What seed planting tip would you share with your fellow workplace missionaries?

Bear fruit and be a doer of the Word always, even to your own detriment. Seed planting is much easier and way more effective, coming from a true disciple of Jesus.

What would you tell young Christians who are entering the workforce for the first time?

Read and do an in depth study on Matthew 10:16. Jesus was instructing His disciples in how to behave in their ministry, and what to expect out in the “workplace”. As we are deliberately planted by the Lord in amongst certain people, for such a time as this. Workplace is our mission field, and the harvest is white!

When you find yourself focusing on worldly things, what do you do to refocus on following Jesus?

To refocus on Jesus I think of Philippians 3:8

Worldly things are garbage, and everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else.

Who wants to focus on what is worthless and garbage – not me.

To know Jesus better I need to focus on Him.

This verse really helps me to keep my eyes focused on the Lord.
